Bulbs that are planted in the spring, such as Dahlias, Lilies, Gladioli, and Begonias, will flower from June through October. Planting these 'summer blooming' bulbs in your garden this spring will bring continuous color to your garden all summer long. Bulbs and corms, mainly frost tender in most parts of the US, so please do not plant them outdoors before the middle of May. Of course all can be planted in the greenhouse or the bulb frame to give them an early start. The plants we offer are mainly bare rooted perennials.
Container planting is another way for you to be creative with your summer blooming bulbs.Summer-flowering bulbs, such as Dahlias, Begonias and Calla Lilies, are perfect varieties for container planting. Expand your choices beyond the expected annuals and tropical plants that are typically planted in decorative containers. Summer blooming bulbs thrive in warm summer weather and add a great range of choices in terms of color and form.
About flower bulbs
Flower bulbs are easy to grow, provided that you stick to some essentials. Probably no other plant group gives as much variety and pleasure to the gardener with so little effort. And if you don't have a garden, flower bulbs, like tulip bulbs, do very well in pots and containers. If you know a few tricks, some can even be induced to flower indoors.
Well-known spring flowering bulbs are Tulips, Daffodil bulbs, Crocuses, Hyacinths and Alliums. Spring flowering bulbs have in common that they need to be planted some 3 till 4 weeks before the frost is in the ground. They need the cold season to start their biological clock. Hence in general spring flowering bulbs will grow in climate zones 4-8.
Well-known summer flowering bulbs are Dahlias, Begonias, Lilies, Gladiolus and Callas. Summer flowering bulbs are planted late spring. A couple of months later they will bloom. Summer flowering bulbs will bloom in most climates but most of them are not winter hardy. Hence in cold climates most summer flowering bulbs should be lifted and stored to be used the next season.

Sie brauchen die kalte Jahreszeit, um ihre biologische Uhr in Gang zu bringen. Deshalb wachsen frühjahrsblühende Blumenzwiebeln im allgemeinen in Klimazone 4-8.
Bekannte sommerblühende Blumenzwiebeln sind Dahlien, Begonien, Lilien, Gladiolen und Callas. Sommerblühende Blumenzwiebeln werden im späten Frühjahr gepflanzt. Einige Monate später blühen sie dann. Sommerblühende Blumenzwiebeln gedeihen in den meisten Klimazonen, aber die meisten von ihnen sind nicht winterfest. Deshalb sollten die vorwiegend sommerblühenden Blumenzwiebeln in kaltem Klima aus der Erde genommen und gelagert werden, so dass sie in der nächsten Saison wieder gepflanzt werden können.

Dès lors, dans les climats froids, il est recommandé de déterrer la plupart des bulbes à floraison d'été et de les remiser jusqu'à la saison suivante.
